Caihu
Caihu is a packaging design for soybean oil. The bottle is made from plant fiber recovered from agricultural straw that remains after the harvest of soybeans, wheat and sugarcane. The straw is pressed into shape with molds, creating a degradable container that replaces plastic and glass. The low weight also suits delivery by post. Each bottle holds 550 millilitres and stands 260 millimetres high. The form follows the shape of a soybean pod, which makes the bottle comfortable to hold. After use, the empty bottle can serve as a plant pot.
Caihu Soybean Oil Packaging by Zhangyong Hou was identified as an exceptional example of communication design by the A' Design Award. Caihu Soybean Oil Packaging earned the Iron A' Design Award in Packaging Design in 2022. The A' Packaging Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design competition that celebrates superior design of bottles, boxes, cans, pouches, tubes, cartons, wrappers, bags and more.
