Glitters
Glitters is a photography series that studies the surface of sequin fabric. The series treats an ordinary functional material as a medium for abstract painting. Human contact changes the sequins in an irreversible way, and each mark is recorded by the camera. The images move from macro to micro views to explore material, texture, color and light. Chance, lighting and intuition guide the experimental approach. The photographs were taken with a digital camera and processed with digital software. Prints are made in a limited edition on fine art paper and plexiglass in four sizes.
Glitters Exhibition Photography Series by Lau King was featured as an outstanding representation of communication design by the A' Design Awards. Glitters Exhibition Photography Series was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in Photography and Photo Manipulation Design in 2022. The A' Photography and Photo Manipulation Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design competition which celebrates exceptional design of portraits, landscapes, still lifes, photojournalism, fashion shots, architectural images, wildlife captures, sports events and more.
